About Jack Daniel’s Rested Straight Rye Whiskey

Jack Daniel Distillery Rested Tennessee Rye Whiskey is crafted from a batch of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley (this mashbill is the first new mashbill used at the Jack Daniel Distillery Distillery in over a century). Once the ingredients have been mashed, they are fermented with a proprietary strain of yeast and iron-free cave spring water. Following fermentation, the wash is distilled and the resulting whiskey is then filtered through 10 feet of charcoal. This filtering process, known as the Lincoln County Process, earns the whiskey the title of “Tennessee Whiskey”and imparts a signature, sweet yet smoky flavor profile.

Once the whiskey has been charcoal filtered, it is matured for two years in American oak casks. “We felt like we should offer our friends another limited-quantity rye expression that’s still handcrafted with the same passion and quality they expect from all of our products,” says Jeff Arnett, the master distiller at Jack Daniel Distillery Distillery. “And we hope they’ll remember that, as good as this new offering is ““ it’s still just a taste of what’s to come.”

Jack Daniel Distillery Rested Tennessee Rye Whiskey has an aroma of caramel, vanilla, nougat and spicy oak that gives way to bold notes of cherries, citrus and rye on the palate. The finish is dark and inviting, with touches of honey, wood, clove and black pepper.

    About Jack Daniel’s

Born on September 5, 1850, Jasper Newton “Jack” Daniel was the youngest of ten children. His parents were of Scottish and Irish descent. In 1864, Jack learned the art of whiskey-making from a preacher and an enslaved man named Nathan “Nearest” Green, who eventually became Jack Daniel Distillery’s head distiller. Daniel’s distillery —founded in Lynchburg, Tennessee, in 1866— was the first registered distillery in the country (at the time, distilleries were required to register with the federal government, and the Jack Daniel Distillery was given Registered Distillery Number 1). Today, Jack Daniel Distillery is one of the most distinguished and recognizable names in the spirits industry.

    About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.

About Jack Daniel’s 150th Anniversary Tennessee Whiskey

Among all their offerings Jack Daniel’s Black Label stands out as the instantly recognizable, iconic classic and the brand’s flagship. It accounts for 96% of Jack Daniel’s sales, making it the best selling whiskey in the world. While the true meaning behind the “Old No. 7” on the label was lost with Daniel’s death, it is known that it won 7 gold medals in a very different time. It received its very first at the 1904 World’s Fair in St Louis, Missouri, where the spirit reigned supreme over 24 others from across the globe ― a sign of things to come. The most important step in its creation is still the charcoal mellowing, or as they like to call it “The Extra Blessing”. Before going into barrels, the clear, 140-proof distillate is filtered through handcrafted charcoal drop by drop, a process that takes from 3 to 5 days and is the reason behind the Black Label’s signature smoothness.

It is fitting, then, that the 150th Anniversary Tennessee Whiskey expression should build on that legendary spirit. Crafted using the same mash bill (80% corn, 12% rye, and 8% barley) as the Black Label, this milestone celebration brings together the skill of Jack Daniel’s distillers and coopers, resulting in a rich and complex whiskey that’s barreled in slow-toasted American oak barrels and bottled at 100 proof. The delicious expression is intense with a classic Tennessee whiskey profile.

    About American Whiskey

There are two main representatives of the American whiskey family, bourbon, and rye, but some other spirits don’t fall into those two strictly regulated categories.

There’s equally strictly regulated American single malt, made from 100% malted barley, Tennessee whiskey, essentially bourbon filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels.

And then there’s moonshine, a high proof (150- 170 proof) distilled spirit mainly made out of corn which gained popularity during the prohibition.

Check out our impressive selection of American single malts, or find your new favorite in our rich whisk(e)y selection, and get familiarized with what the world has to offer.
