About Patrón en Lalique Serie 3 Extra Añejo Tequila

If you like your tequila on the sophisticated side, then you are no stranger to Patrón. What started off as one of the oldest and most reputable distilleries in Mexico was later acquired by Bacardi Spirits, a booze giant, giving Patrón its rightful shine and recognition in the booze world. This Mexican spirit is expertly handmade with detailed precision and care. It uses only the first-rate quality Weber Blue Agave, the main culprit for giving the tequila its smooth and slightly sweet taste. Patrón en Lalique Serie 3 Extra Añejo Tequila is an artisanal spirit and came out on National Tequila Day on July 24th, 2022. It is the love child of luxury house Lalique France and tequila paradise Patrón, Mexico. This elegant tipple clocks in at 40 % ABV and whose bottle design showcases the work of Marc Larminaux, who encapsulated the agave plant and highlighted the spirits’ natural materials in a handcrafted crystal decanter bottle. The bottle itself carefully captures the effort of Master Distiller David Rodriguez and his prime selection of 14 extra añejo tequilas, matured up to 14 years. But be warned—only 299 bottles were made, denoting exclusivity and rarity in each and bringing maximum satisfaction to the lucky few owners.

    About Patrón Tequila

“The Patrón Spirits Company was launched in 1989 by John Paul DeJoira and Martin Crowley. With its inception, came the world’s first ultra-premium Tequila. A new state-of-the-art facility was constructed in Jalisco in 2002, to facilitate its profound reception. It became the first spirits brand in its class to sell one million cases.

Francisco Alcaraz is the Master Distiller & Blender behind the recipe for the Mexican spirit. Produced at the Hacienda de Patrón, the distillery sources agaves from Los Altos in Jalisco. Roca Patrón is crafted from 100% Weber Blue Agave which are harvested after six to seve n years by expert Jimadors.

The agaves are then crushed by a two-ton volcanic stone Tahona, a centuries-old tradition that breaks down the fibers. The freshly milled desert succulents are slow-roasted in a brick oven for 79 hours, before being fermented in wooden vats. The agave juice is distilled in small batches through handmade copper stills with the agave fibers to produce an earthy flavor. ”

About Patrón Extra Añejo 7 Años Tequila Limited Edition

Francisco Alcaraz, Patrón Spirits Company’s international director and master distiller, has been with the company since its beginning. Alcaraz first created the recipe for Patrón when he was working at the Siete Leguas — one of Mexico’s oldest distilleries — which produced an early version of Patrón from 1989 until 2002. At Siete Leguas, Alcaraz perfected two very distinct ways of producing tequila, and when he transitioned to the new Patrón Tequila Company in the early 2000s, he brought with him his mastery of both techniques.

Patrón Tequila is a blend of tequilas produced by two methods: the traditional method, which uses a tahona — a giant grinding stones that crushes baked agave (Patrón roasts its agave in brick ovens for exactly 79 hours) before fermentation and distillation — and a newer, mechanical method which shreds the agave in a roller mill. After it has been crushed, the agave is fermented for at least three days before being distilled through hand-made copper stills at Hacienda Patrón.

Patrón Limited Edition Extra Añejo 7 años Tequila was aged in French oak for seven years — far beyond the minimum three years which is required to call tequila “extra añejo” — in a hidden corner of one of Hacienda Patrón’s barrel-aging rooms. According to Production Manager Antonio Rodriguez, “We had checked [the barrels] after 8 months to see if they were ready for reposado. It wasn’t the type we wanted. We passed on it again when we tried it for añejo. By the time we checked the tequila again, it was seven years old — and very different.” So special, in fact, that Master Distiller Francisco Alcaraz decided to bottle it as Patrón’s oldest first-ever limited-edition release.

As a result of the extra-long aging process, Patrón Limited Edition Extra Añejo 7 Años Tequila has an intense amber and golden color, along with an aroma of dried fruits, melted butter, oak tannins and vanilla. The palate is filled with more dried f ruits, as well as a robust citrus character and light caramel sweetness. The finish is long and complex, with woody notes that continue to evolve on the tongue.

“It’s a happy accident of aging, temperature, wood and where the barrels were placed,” says Rodriguez. “We didn’t set out to make it, and we can’t make any more.” Only 700 cases of this spectacular tequila will ever be produced.
