    About Appleton Estate

In 1655, a British expedition led by Sir William Penn and General Robert Venables captured the island of Jamaica from the Spanish. Following the conquest, Frances Dickinson — a soldier in Venables’ army — was granted land in exchange for his honorable services. This land would eventually become the foundation of the Appleton Estate.

Since 1749, the Appleton Estate has been crafting some of the world’s finest rum from sugarcane grown on it’s 11,000 acre estate. Once the sugarcane is harvested, it is fermented with exceptionally soft water that originates on the Estate and is naturally filtered through limestone hills. In addition, the fermentation process uses a proprietary strain of yeast that contributes a unique aroma and flavor profile to the rum. Following fermentation, the rum is distilled through copper pot and column stills.

    About Rum

    About English Harbour

Antigua Distillery Limited was formed in 1932 by a group of eight local entrepreneurs, who a few years earlier came together to buy molasses in bulk and control the distillation process for their rums. In 1933, the company opened a rum distillery on Rat Island in St. John’s harbor and the first rum it produced was sold unaged in casks to local rum merchants and aged or matured as Caballero Rum. In 1947 ADL introduced its own label, Cavalier Muscovado Rum, and a lighter version of this rum is still marketed today as Cavalier Antigua Rum. In 1991, the distillery installed a 3-column pure copper still from John Dore & Co., modified on site to simulate 5 columns, which is the only column still in the Caribbean to which other metals have not been added.

    $81.00 Availability: In Stock

About Goslings Papa Seal Single Barrel Bermuda Rum 2018 Release

Goslings Papa Seal Rum is their ultra-premium single barrel expression. It’s a combination of 14 and 18 year old pot and column-distilled rums that were aged separately, blended together, and then married in American white oak for an additional 2 years in once-used medium-char bourbon barrels, the humid Bermuda air working its magic all the while. Only 12 barrels of this mellow and elegant rum were produced, yielding a total of 2592 bottles. Each cask was carefully hand-picked, every bottle meticulously bottled and labeled by hand.

The luxurious expression has garnered numerous awards, including a 2019 Rum of The Year by the Caribbean Journal and 92 points by Tasting Panel. “Our obsession has always been on crafting the finest rums possible, not the most rums. With that mantra in mind, we proudly created Papa Seal, ‘The Father of all Rums’. My only regret is that we are forced to limit the number of people who can experience it,” said Malcolm Gosling, president and CEO, at the launch of the rum. Named after the father of the Goslings family of rum-makers, Malcom Gosling, known among family and friends as “Papa Seal”, this expression is one of the few single barrel rums available on the market today.

    About Goslings

The story of Goslings Rum is a serendipitous one, dating as far back as 1806, when James Gosling ventured out to sea at the request of his father. Gosling was heading towards Virginia, equipped with wines and spirits worth 10,000 pounds Sterling. 91 days into the trip the charter on the ship Mercury ran out, forcing Gosling to settle in Bermuda. Eventually he decided to open a wine and spirits shop on the island, the rest is history.

Upon his return to England in 1824 James Gosling opened a shop with his brother Ambrose, which has been in the Gosling family ever since. Their first rum, the Black Seal, was produced nearly half a century later in 1863. Produced in Bermuda, the Black Seal is synonymous with the island. Today, the family business is in the 7th generation of Goslings, who continue to lead company, as the largest exporter of any Bermuda made product. Goslings is also the only company that blends and bottles on the island.

Over a century and a half later, the family’s patriarch Malcolm Gosling made the decision to reveal the secrets of their family’s successful Caribbean elixir. Goslings Family Reserve Rum is crafted from the same blend of ingredients as their flagship Black Seal Rum. The differentiating factor is the increased amount of time the rum spends inside of the ex-bourbon oak barrels, giving it more complexity and overall depth.

In 1751, Severo Arango y Ferro arrived in Cartagena, a port city in northern Colombia. Ferro had been sent to Colombia from Spain, and was asked to establish and oversee commercial trading activities between Spain and its American colonies. Ferro proved himself to be an able and ruthless statesman and under his leadership, the city of Cartagena became a hub of economic activity and the most important port for the Spanish fleet in the Americas. Ferro’s strength and power also earned him the nickname “Dictador.”

Dictador was partial to a variety of rums that were being distilled in the Caribbean at the time, many of which passed through Cartagena on their way to Spain. In 1913, over 150 years after Ferro initially arrived in Colombia, one of his descendants established Destileria Colombiana. Today, the dis tillery honors the legacy of its founding ancestors with Dictador Rum.
