    About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.

About Springbank 25 Year Old 1969 Vintage

Nearly two centuries ago, the town of Campbeltown, located on a narrow peninsula in southwest Scotland, was considered the whisky capital of the world. Passengers arriving by sea at Campbeltown Loch — nestled between Macringan’s Point and the rocky island of Davaar — were greeted with the sails and masts of the herring fishing fleet and the smoking chimneys of nearly thirty different distilleries that called Campbeltown home. Two hundred years later, Campbeltown Loch is considerably quieter and only three chimneys continue to billow smoke — each acting as a beacon for an industry that, at one point, dominated the peninsula.

In 1828, Springbank Distillery was founded on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s illicit still in Campbeltown. (Today, Mitchell’s great-great-great-grandson owns the distillery.) Within ten years, its whisky was so well-regarded that a blender by the name of John Walker purchased 118 gallons of whisky from Springbank at 43 pence a gallon.

By the turn of the century — as worldwide demand for Scotch whisky seemed insatiable — distilleries throughout Scotland began cutting corners and outsourcing parts of the distillation process. Springbank Distillery, however, remained true to its Scottish heritage and today, remains one of only two distilleries in Scotland to perform every step of the whisky making process — from malting barley to bottling whisky — on the same premises.

After malting and lightly peating the barley (using locally cut peat), the distillers at Springbank mill and mash it in cast-iron mash tuns that are nearly a century old. The pure spring water used during the mashing process is sourced from Crosshill Loch, which in turn is fed by springs seeping from the northern slopes of 1,100-foot tall Beinn Ghuilean. After mashing the grains, the wash is slowly fermented over the course of 70 hours — one of the longest fermentation processes in Scotland — before being distilled. Because some of the wash is distilled twice and some is distilled three times, Springbank Whisky is said to be distilled two and a half times.

Following distillation, the whisky is aged in used bourbon cas ks. Since Campbeltown is located on a narrow peninsula, the strong, perennial sea winds, warmed by the gulf stream, add a slight hint of saltiness to the whisky as it ages. This incredibly rare limited edition Campbeltown was originally distilled in 1969. Produced in very limited quantities this Springbank 25 year got its rest in sherry oak before being bottled at 46% ABV.

  • Laphroaig 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Laphroaig 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

    $166.50 Availability: In Stock

About Laphroaig 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Laphroaig Single Malt Whisky is one of the most flavorful and intense whiskies made anywhere in the world. During Prohibition, it was one of the few whiskies still legally imported into the United States, as it was considered a medicinal spirit. Laphroaig Single Malt is made from the finest Scottish barley, which is then malted at the distillery and smoked over a peat flame. Unlike other distilleries which source peat from the Scottish mainland, the peat used to smoke Laphroaig barley is made of from the heather, mosses and lichens of Islay and adds a distinct iodine-like flavor to the whisky.

After the barley has been malted and peated, it is fermented before being twice-distilled through Laphroaig’s copper-pot stills. The unique stills have an usually flat base and flat surfaces, which lends to the overall intensity of the whisky. After the whisky has been distilled, it is aged in seasoned oak barrels, which are re-charred prior to being filled. The re-charring process caramelizes the remaining sugars in the barrel, and adds slightly sweet notes of vanilla and nutty dough to the whisky.

Laphroaig 18 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is aged for 18 years in the distillery’s warehouses, which are situated along the shores of Loch Laphroaig. As a result, the whisky is imbued with a slightly salty tang that compliment its notes of oaky sweetness, dried citrus and peat. Following maturation, the whisky is bottled without the use of chill filtration.

Laphroaig 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in limited quantities each year. The whisky earned the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011 and 2012, and earned a score of 95 points from the Beverage Testing Institute.

    About Laphroaig

Situated on the southern coast of Islay, Laphroaig (pronounced La-froyg) Distillery was founded nearly two centuries ago by Donald and Alexander Johnston. The distillery derives its name from the ancient Gaelic word “lag”(meaning hollow) and the ancient Norse word “vik”(meaning bay), which refers to its location on the shores of Loch Laphroaig.

In 1836, Donald Johnston offered his brother £350 for his interests the distillery, and ultimately became the sole proprietor of Laphroaig Distillery. For over a ce ntury, the distillery would remain in the hands of one of Johnston’s descendants. In 1954, however, Ian Hunter passed away childless and bequeathed the distillery to Bessie Williamson, a secretary that had been working at the distillery for two decades. Hunter was incredibly protective of the distillery — while he slowly revealed its secrets to Williamson after she had earned his trust, Hunter prevented a cooper who was employed at the distillery from publishing his memoirs because they described the workings of the distillery in too great a detail.

About Highland Park Loki 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Situated just a few miles north of Scotland’s mainland, the Orkney archipelago was occupied by a number of different nomadic and belligerent tribes for centuries. In 875, however, the islands were annexed by Norway and settled by the Norse, who began using the archipelago as a base for Viking raids across Europe. In 1468, the islands were pledged by King Christian I of Norway as a dowry to King James III of Scotland, and since then, the islands connection with Scotland has been perpetual.

Situated in the city of Kirkwall — the capital of the Orkney Islands — Highland Park Distillery was founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson. The name of the distillery is derived not from the region of Scotland known as The Highlands — the Orkney islands are not a part of The Highlands — but rather, from the region known as High Park, where the distillery was founded.

Highland Park Loki is the second of four releases in the Valhalla Collection available from Highland Park. Named for one of the most treacherous and mischievous characters in Norse mythology, Loki is a 15 year-old limited edition single malt whisky that was matured in both sherry casks and casks that were previously used to mature heavily peated whisky.

The whisky, much like the god it pays homage to, is intriguing and complex, and is housed in an award-winning wooden frame that echos the fearsome contours of a traditional Viking ship. While it has an aroma of citrus and spice, the palate is robust and chewy, with notes of intense smoke and hints of dried fruits. The smoke fades to notes of licorice and chocolate, and finishes with a touch of cloves, cinnamon, vanilla and hickory smoke.

“While everyone will recognize the definite “˜Highland Park-ness’ of this 15 year old single malt,” says Gerry Tosh, the marketing manager at Highland Park Distillery, “it will be the unexpected and surprisingly smoky dynamics that will really get palates excited and mouths talking. This is unlike any expression that has come before and will beguile and fascinate with its complexity and trickery.”

Highland Park Loki Single Malt Scotch Whisky earned a score of five stars from F. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal, which rated it one of the top thirty spirits in the world.

About Highland Park Freya 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Highland Park distillery was founded by Whisky smuggler Magnus Eunson in 1798 and legend has it that he used his position as a church officer to conceal Whisky beneath the pulpit to keep it out of sight of interfering governmental types. What we do know for sure is that Highland Park is the northerly most distillery in Scotland — sitting way out on the island of Orkney in the far North Sea, just below the Arctic Circle. It’s as close to Iceland as it is to London.

Because the name is “Highland Park,” it may be easy to think that means their whisky is made in the Highland style. But it’s quite different. In character, their spirit is closer to a midpoint between Lowland style and peated Islay single malts. And it’s signature style and dedication to superior quality keep it broad range of whiskies in high demand. In fact, spirits journalist and whisky legend Michael Jackson called Highland Park, “The greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky.”

Highland Park Freya was the third in a four-part Valhalla Series of limited edition single malts named after Norse deities — this one released in 2014. It’s a lightly peated and delicate dram aged fifteen years in ex-sherry casks. Freya was the Norse goddess of love, beauty, gold, and war. Highland Park obviously took the naming seriously, delivering a golden-hued dram with a luscious palate and lovely, complex flavor profile. But do not sell this goddess short… at 51.2% ABV it’s a powerful dram.

About Glenmorangie Ealanta 19 Year Old Single Malt Scotch

Following distillation, Glenmorangie Ealanta Single Malt Whisky was aged for 19 years in heavily toasted virgin oak casks. “Toasting just gives an altogether more subtle taste experience,” says Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Master of Whisky creation. Lumsden, who holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (he wrote his dissertation on yeast physiology) and is the only person in the world to have been honored with Whisky Advocate’s “Industry Leader of the Year” award three times, is one of the most respected figures in the Scotch whisky industry. “Charred oak gives a large amount of flavor really quickly and while it may work beautifully for the oily, gutsy spirits distilled in Kentucky and Tennessee, it’s not ideally suited for our rather refined and delicate Scottish spirit.” As a result, Lumsden aged Ealanta exclusively in casks that were coopered from slow growth oak after being air-seasoned for just one year, as opposed to the traditional 18 to 24 months.

After the whisky was poured into the heavily-toasted casks, it was allowed to mature in Warehouse 3, one of Glenmorangie’s dunnage-style warehouses, which is equipped with stone walls and damp floors. “Rather than driving the extractives out of the wood, which you would get in a typical Kentucky heated warehouse, this allows the flavors in the wood to be coaxed out very gently, and it develops a lot of complexity,” says Lumsden.

Following its 19-year beauty rest, Glenmorangie Ealanta Single Malt Whisky was non-chill filtered and bottled in its natural color at 92 proof.

Glenmorangie Ealanta was named the 2014 World Whisky of the Year by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible, with a score of 97.5 points — the highest score ever. Only a select number of bottles were made for the Private Edition collection.

    About Glenmorangie

In 1738, a brewery was built upon Morangie Farm in the Highlands region of Scotland. A century later, William Matheson acquired the farm and equipped the Morangie brewery with two stills that he purchased second-hand, and renamed the brewery-converted-distillery Glenmorangie.

Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made using malted barley, which is mashed and fermented with water sourced from the Tarlogie Spring. The water produced from the spring, which spends nearly a century underground being filtered through layers of limestone before it is extracted, is unusually rich in minerals. In the 1980s, when development in th e area threatened the spring’s water quality, Glenmorangie purchased 600 acres of land around and including the spring in order to ensure consistent water quality and adequate supply.

After the barley has been fermented, the wash is twice distilled through Glenmorangie’s copper-pot stills by a team of 16 distillers known as the Sixteen Men of Tain. Glenmorangie’s stills are equipped with relatively small boiler pots, which increases the exposure of the whisky to the copper, resulting in a more pure flavor. In addition, the stills are nearly seventeen feet tall — the tallest of any distillery in Scotland — and as a result, produce a lighter, more refined whisky.

About Glenfarclas 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenfarclas 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from freshly harvested barley, which is steeped in water sourced from the heather-clad slopes of the Ben Rinnes mountain. The crystal-clear spring water, which cascades down the 3,000-foot mountain through peat and granite, is the lifeblood of the Glenfarclas Distillery. After the barley is malted, it is milled and mashed before being fermented using 100% cultured distiller’s yeast.

The wash — the liquid that remains after fermentation — is then distilled twice through Glenfarclas’s copper-pot stills. While most distilleries use steam-powered stills (because they are more efficient and preserve the lifespan of the still), Glenfarclas Distillery continues to use traditional direct-heated stills in order to preserve the traditional flavors of the whisky. After distillation, the heads and tails (the whisky produced at the beginning and end of the distillation process) are discarded, and only about 15% of the distillate — the heart of hearts — is preserved for maturation.

Glenfarclas 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is matured for 21 years in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry casks (the sherry casks had previously matured Oloroso and Fino sherry in Seville, Spain). As a result, the single malt has an aroma of butterscotch and dried fruits, which gives way to full-bodied and rounded notes of chocolate, cherries and a touch of smoke and honey. The lingering finish has hints of toffee and caramel.

Glenfarclas 21 YO Single Malt Scotch Whisky earned a score of 95 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in 2013, and was rated “extraordinary.”

    About Glenfarclas

Situated on the Recherlich Farm in the Speyside region of Scotland, Glenfarclas Distillery was founded in 1836 by Robert Hay, a tenant farmer. In 1865, John Grant purchased the distillery from Hay for £511. Grant was a cattle breeder at the time, and was looking for a staging post between his farm in Glenlivet and the commercial market situated in Elgin.

When Grant passed away in 1889, he left the estate to his son George. George died shortly thereafter and his children, also named George and John Grant, took control of the distillery. After saving the distillery from the brink of bankruptcy, the Grant Brothers modernized and expanded the operations such that in May 1912, a rival distiller wrote: “of all the whiskies, malt is king — of all the kings, Glenfarclas reigns supreme.”

Today, George S. Grant — the great-great-great grandson of a cattle farmer — represents the sixth generation of Grants that own and manage the Glenfarclas Distillery, one of the last remaining independent distilleries in Scotland.

    About The Dalmore

Situated along the banks of Cromarty Firth in the Highlands region of Scotland, Dalmore Distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, who had earned his fortune illegally importing opium from the Far East. In 1886, Matheson sold Dalmore Distillery to Clan MacKenzie, whose century-long stewardship and defining influence over the distillery is still evident today — the 12-point stag adorned on every bottle of Dalmore Distillery Whisky is derived from Clan MacKenzie’s coat of arms.

Dalmore Distillery Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from plump, golden barley sourced from the rich, coastal soils of the Black Isle. Once the barley has been harvested, it is milled and mashed before being fermented with water drawn from the Cromarty Firth. Prior to reaching the firth, however, the water travels from Loch Morie through a number of peat bogs and limestone quarries, and thus, contributes a slightly mineral and chewy mouthfeel to the whisky.

Once the barley has been fermented, the wash is distilled twice, first through Dalmore Distillery’s copper-pot wash stills and then again through its copper-pot spirit stills. The wash stills have an unusually flat top, while the spirit stills are equipped with cold water jackets. This unusual equipment — the water jackets rinse cold water near the top of the still — makes it difficult for the lighter elements of the whisky to pass through the still, and ultimately results in a more opulent and rich whisky.

    About Glen Moray

In its first life, Glen Moray was the Elgin West Brewery, until the end of the 19th century, when the brewery was reincarnated as the iconic Speyside distillery. Glen Moray was founded by Robert Thorne & Sons. Situated on the banks of River Lossie, in the Royal Burgh of Elgin, the first spirit dropped from the copper pot stills on the 13th of September 1897. There have only been five Master Distillers since then, which is a testament to their authenticity, and reputation for producing consistent, quality spirit. This pristine craftsmanship has been passed down through generations.

With over a century of tradition, not much has changed at the iconic Speyside distillery. They continue to mature their whiskies in a wide array of casks, a technique which was once a rarity. Their whisky ages onsite in casks ranging from sherry and chardonnay to port, yielding an impressive spectrum of aromas and flavors.

After a brief pause in production during WWII, Glen Moray revamped their facilities and expanded, and the distillery is currently owned by French spirits company La Martiniquaise. Graham Coull is the fifth master distiller at Glen Moray. At the helm of the operation, he oversees all of the production that goes into their signature core range, featuring nine single malts.

About Glen Garioch 37 Year Old Bicentenary 200th Anniversary Edition

Glen Garioch Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from barley harvested from the Valley of the Garioch. After the barley has been harvested, it is mashed and fermented with water drawn from the Silent Spring. In 1968, production of whisky at Glen Garioch Distillery was suspended as the area surrounding the distillery experienced a severe drought. Four years later, an incredibly pure spring was discovered upon a neighborhooding farm. The Silent Spring, as it came to be known, could neither be seen nor heard without modern instruments, and has been Glen Garioch’s water source for over four decades. Once the barley has been fermented, it is distilled twice — first through Glen Garioch copper-pot wash still and then again through its spirit still.

This gorgeous golden dram was released in honor of the 200 year anniversary of the distillery. That happened on the same day that the reopening did. Only 200 fit-for-celebration bottles were ever made. It’s rare and highly in-demand.

You’ll do your collection a huge favor by grabbing this one for yourself!

    About Glen Garioch

Situated in the village of Old Meldrum in the Scottish Highlands, the Glen Garioch (pronounced Glen Geery) Distillery was founded in 1797 by John and Alexander Manson. The distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland, and takes its name from the Valley of the Garioch, which is situated adjacent to the distillery and is known for producing the finest barley in all of Scotland. The distillery — the most easterly in Scotland — enjoys the temperate climate and cool breeze that are ideal for the production and maturation of whisky.

    About Scotch

There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

It starts off heavy on the nose but is balanced with exotic fruit and honey. There are apparent coal elements that hit the palate, and the finish is satisfyingly smokey as well.

About Glenfiddich Rare Collection 1975 Vintage Cask #5114

In 1886, William Grant, along with the help of his nine children and a single stone mason, began construction of the Glenfiddich Distillery, situated in the Speyside region of Scotland. After a year of hard labor, the first drop of whisky fell from the distillery’s copper-pot stills on Christmas Day 1887. Today, Grant’s passion, determination and pioneering spirit continue to guide Glenfiddich Distillery, which is stewarded by the fifth generation of the Grant family.

Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch is made exclusively from malted barley, which is milled and mashed with water sourced from Robbie Dhu spring. The crystal clear spring water, which is bottled directly at the source, is incredibly pure — the distillery purchased 1,200 acres around the spring decades ago in order to protect its unique water supply. After the barley has been mashed, it is fermented in wooden fermentation tanks made of Douglas Fir. While wooden fermentation tanks are more expensive and difficult to maintain as compared to stainless steel tanks, they absorb a portion of the heat generated during fermentation, and thus, enable a slower and longer fermentation process. Following fermentation, the wash is twice-distilled through Glenfiddich’s copper-pot stills (the distillery employs a craftsman onsite to tend to the stills, which are unique in shape and size) before the heart of the distillate is cut and prepared for maturation.

This fantastic US limited release is a treasure! Only 100 bottles of Glenfiddich Rare Collection 1975 Vintage Cask 5114 were ever produced. Cask 5114 matured in a European Oak Hogshead, and it’s bottled at casks strength and non-chill filtered. Even the bottle itself is fittingly extra. Each individually numbered, presented in a brown Italian leather box. Ah-maz ing!

About Bruichladdich 35 Year Old 1968 Legacy Series Three

This rich, soft and fruity Whisky was distilled way back in 1968 and spent 35 years in ex-Bourbon casks. It’s #3 in the legacy series (an array of the rarest and oldest Bruichladdich casks).

Specially selected by Master Distiller Jim McEwan, each bottle features the stunning artwork of the famous Scottish artist Frances MacDonald. This bottle features “Eilean Nam Ban from the Dunes.”

Bruichladdich is an award-winning distillery employing generations of distilling knowledge and the principle of minimal intervention. Built in 1881 on the wild Scottish island of Islay, our distillery still uses the original Victorian equipment to create a range of single malt whiskies that are trickle-distilled, matured, and bottled solely on Islay by a skilled team of 78 men and women.

Bruichladdich implements revolutionary, modern interpretations of time-honored ideas and challenges the comfortable conventions of a whisky establishment. Rejecting the onset of modern automation and homogenization, our Head Distiller Adam Hannett only considers production methods that place the quality of liquid above everything else.

About The Singleton of Dufftown 54 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glendullan is situated in Dufftown, the Whisky capital of the world. As one of the busiest Whisky epicenters, it is home to some of the greatest Scotch Whiskies ever created. Founded in 1898, by William Williams & Sons from Aberdeen, the distillery was actually decreed by King Edward VII in 1902. Like most distilleries, Glendullan has a history of ownership changes and renovations. In 1926, the distillery was bought out by Distillers Company Limited, then switched hands to Scottish Malt Distillers in 1939. By 1962 the distillery was renovated, and only a decade later a new facility was constructed near the original site. In 1985 the original facility was mothballed.

“Glendullan 2” is also a workhorse, putting out 4 million liters of spirit per year, producing several labels. The distillery itself has official bottlings and has been producing the Singleton brand since 2007. A bioplant, which processes the spent lees, was also opened on-site in 2014. The distillery has 3 wash stills with an impressive capacity of 33,700 liters, and 3 spirit stills with 23,800 liters of capacity. They source their unpeated maltings from Diageo’s industrial site, and the mashing takes place in a 12-ton mash tun.

The Singleton Paragon of Time series features their oldest and rarest whiskies. This expression is the oldest release from The Singleton to date, having been crafted more than half a century ago in Dufftown, each process taking its time, the barley malted and turned by hand. The oak butt cask was hand-filled on October 31st, 1966. It was finally matured in a Pedro Ximenez sherry-seasoned cask for an additional sprinkling of richness. Finally, the whisky was bottled at 88.2 proof.

    About The Singleton

Situated in the Speyside region of Scotland, the Dufftown Distillery was founded in 1895 by four wine merchants who, together, purchased a stone built saw and meal mill and converted into a distillery. Located near the confluence of the Rivers Dullan and Fiddich, the distillery draws its water from Jock’s Well, which is renowned for its incredibly pure and flavorful spring water (on more than one occasion, nearby distilleries — particularly Mortlach — have been caught attempting to divert water from the well to their own distillery).

Singleton of Dufftown Single Malt Scotch Whisky is crafted exclusively from malted barley, which is milled and mashed before being fermented in the distillery’s wooden washbacks. Following fermentation, the whisky is distilled twice: first through a copper pot wash still and then again through a copper pot spirit still.
